Parents & Carers as Partners

📅 Last Reviewed: November 2024 | 🔄 Next Review: November 2025 | ✍️ Reviewed By: C. Cuthbertson

At Tiny Toez we recognise that working in partnership with parents and carers is of major value to providing a happy, caring, stimulating and stable environment for every child and family. We know that parents and carers have much to contribute to children's development — and we're committed to making that partnership a real and active one.

Always Open to You

We want families to feel genuinely welcome and heard at every stage of their child's time with us.

  • Staff are always available for discussion, and arrangements can be made for more private conversations with your child's key worker, room supervisor, or manager at agreed times.
  • Information you share about your child is kept strictly confidential and treated on a need-to-know basis.
  • If we have any concerns about your child's wellbeing during the day, every effort will be made to contact you or your emergency contact.
  • Comments and suggestions are always welcome — a comments box/book is available in the setting, and you can also reach us by email.
  • Termly questionnaires are sent to all parents and carers, and you can request to complete one at any other point in the year.

Your Child's Learning Journey

We believe families are an essential part of how children learn and grow. Here's how we keep you involved:

📝 All About Me

During induction visits, you'll complete an 'All About Me' form to share information about your child and home life, used to personalise their learning from day one.

📊 Baseline Assessment

Parents are invited to contribute to their child's baseline assessment during induction by completing a pathways sheet and speech and language checklist.

🔍 Weekly Observations

Your child's key worker documents achievements and new skills each week on the Famly app, added to their profile and used to shape future planning.

🎯 PLOD Planning

Future planning is based on each child's Possible Lines of Development (PLOD). Once completed by the key worker, parents are invited to contribute too.

Parents can interact with and contribute to their child's learning journey at any time using the Famly app (online or mobile). We actively encourage you to share moments and add to your child's profile.

Staying Connected

  • Children's daily activities are always on display through wall displays, photographs, artwork, and daily diaries.
  • Regular newsletters keep you up to date with curriculum developments, activities, staff changes, and nursery news.
  • Parents' evenings give your child's key worker the opportunity to discuss progress in detail, view displays, and address any concerns or questions.
  • You are invited into the setting to share special events and celebrations — Mother's Day, Father's Day, Eid, Christmas, and various stay and play sessions throughout the year.
  • A home loan service is available to families — including books, creative sacks, story sacks, and treasure baskets.
  • You may occasionally be asked to send in objects from home to support activities, such as family photos for displays or recyclable materials for junk modelling.

Supporting Every Child & Family

  • If your child needs extra support, we will work with you to put a co-ordinated action plan in place, which may include liaising with outside agencies to meet their needs.
  • Staff will support children and families through transitions between rooms, settings, and schools, and can liaise with outside agencies such as speech therapy or health visitors if requested.
  • We actively support families where English is an additional language — your child's home language will be incorporated into activities, displays, greetings, mealtimes, and general conversation. We value every child's culture and identity.

Keeping Us Informed

Partnership works both ways. We ask parents and carers to help us provide the best possible care by keeping us up to date with:

  • Any changes to personal circumstances — address, phone number, GP, or emergency contacts.
  • Any circumstances that could affect your child's emotional wellbeing — such as bereavement, separation, or illness in the family.

The more we know, the better we can support your child. Please never feel that something is too small to mention — your child's key person is always there to listen.
